Importance of a shopping guide

A shopping guide is very important if you are to get best buys. Many consumers lose a lot of money on overpriced commodities in popular retail shops and in cottage wholesalers who claim to have low prices.

The difference in prices may seem irrelevant if you are buying small quantities but you can save a significant amount per month if you sum up  overpriced cents of all your monthly purchases. For instance, if you buy a loaf of bread that is overpriced by 10cents everyday, in a week you lose 70cents , in a month it's $2.80 which are 3 loafs. If you continue with the math, you lose 36 loafs a year, which could have saved you a month or so of buying break for breakfast.

Economic theories suggest that poor population has a higher marginal propensity to spend and those in the middle class have a higher marginal propensity to save. One of the reasons why poor people remains poor and saves almost nothing from their monthly income is that they spend on expensive commodities.

We can all agree that in Zimbabwe, prices of both large and small retails in high densities are slightly above price tags in low density areas. This can be attributed to population size which contributes to higher demand of products, thereby higher prices are charged.

It is important to plan your monthly budget if you are to save a significant amount per year. You can save amount enough to cover expenses of a month if you can avoid overpriced commodities.

It is the purpose of this blog to help you with necessary information that can help you save on all your monthly and yearly purchases. In our next series of blogs I will be comparing prices of basic foodstuffs and toiletries from different retailers and recommend where customers will find best buys
